Introducing our 2024 Champion

Introducing Coale, 2024 Children’s Hospital of Georgia Champion, will be featured during this year’s Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals partner campaigns.

Coale was born with 12 broken bones due to a rare diagnosis of Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) type III. Also known as brittle bone disease, OI causes Coale’s bones to be soft and extremely susceptible to fractures. Before he was born, Coale’s parents worried about caring for him without risking injuries. The nurses and doctors at Children’s Hospital of Georgia answered all their questions, including how to hold him, nurse him, and change his diaper in the earliest days of uncertainty. Over the years, Coale has had several surgeries to place rods in his bones to help reduce the risk of breaks. Today, Coale is five years old and full of personality. While he regularly faces broken bones due to his OI, he doesn’t let it slow him down. Coale loves basketball, space, and dinosaurs.
